YOUNG’S announced at the weekend that it has won a substantial contract renewal and expansion to supply a leading sandwich chain with salmon.
The chain has not been named but is thought to be Pret a Manger, which has more than 320 outlets in the UK and 500 plus in eight other countries worldwide.
The deal is seen as a major boost for the company at a time when seafood contracts appear to be changing hands almost weekly.
The new contract will see Young’s expand its offering from two lines to five, adding protein pots, a salad offering and seasonal special baguette, as well as supplying salmon for sandwiches and baguettes.
The deal follows the appointment of Roger Sudlow as Young’s business development manager. He will be responsible for developing the company’s business in the pub, restaurant, fast food and casual dining sectors.
Young’s CEO Bill Showalter said: ‘Increasing our food service presence is a key pillar of our strategic growth plan and our continued success in this market demonstrates the quality and innovation of our supply.
‘The expansion of our contract with this leading, international sandwich chain, growing from two lines to five, is a testament to the significant scope we have to increase our presence in this sector.’
