EXCELLENCE in fish health and welfare is the focus of a two-day training session taking place at Stirling University next week.
Aimed at entry level and experienced marine and fresh water husbandry staff, the course – from January 15-16 – will address the major fish health challenges facing aquaculture today.
Delivered by Europharma, one of the UK’s leading developers of fish health and welfare programmes, and its veterinary division, Fishguard, and in conjunction with Stirling University’s Institute of Aquaculture, the course will take place in the Stirling Court Hotel.
Nikos Steiropoulos, CEO of Europharma, will be leading the training. He said: ‘Excellence in fish health and welfare is an ongoing goal for Europharma and this training session enables us to share good practice with those entering or already working within the industry.
‘Aquaculture production in Scotland was valued at £670 million in 2015, supporting in excess of 12,000 jobs.
‘It is an industry which remains a key area for growth and this will be sustained by identifying and heading off new and emerging challenges facing the sector.’
Delegates will receive up to the minute information relating to all aspects of fish health and welfare including sessions on stress, disease, immunology, vaccination, epidemiology, sampling and treatments.
Day two focuses on common pathogens, diseases and conditions prevalent in aquaculture, hands on guidance on sampling in the field and details of the role of vet support and the use of the Veterinary Health Plan as a health management tool in fish farms.
