YOUNG'S unique ‘Fish for Life’ approach – and within this its ‘Ten Principles for Responsible Fish Procurement’ - has received independent validation.
Fish for Life encompasses Young’s behaviour and ethical stance on the sourcing of fish from both wild and aquaculture resources. It incorporates Young’s unique supplier audit process, which generates a risk assessment of each individual fishery, directing Young’s purchasing strategies and allowing it to focus on areas of concern with producers.
Earlier this year, Young’s commissioned an audit by respected independent consultancy, Bodycote Lawlabs. This process has now validated the Fish for Life approach and confirmed that Young’s is applying a robust methodology in assessing the sustainability of supplier fisheries.
Mike Parker (who as deputy CEO of Young’s also has overall responsibility for seafood sourcing) says: “Fish for Life has become a fundamental cornerstone of our business, so we felt it was crucial to subject its processes to proper independent scrutiny. We are delighted that this audit has underlined the validity of our approach and feel confident that we have developed an industry-leading template for the assessment of responsible fisheries practice.”
