FOUR new jobs are to be created on Shetland's West Side thanks to the expansion of a local mussel farm business.
Yesterday Shetland Development Trust announced it had agreed a loan of £136,222 to North Atlantic Shellfish Ltd (NASL) to help it take over neighbouring business Shetland Shellfish Ltd, run by Peter Henry.
The loan will help NASL to expand its mussel growing and processing operation to meet the demand for shellfish grown in Shetland waters.
The company will also be able to extend its harvesting period on sites which have good water quality. NASL will be able to add Shetland Shellfish's sites in Clousta to its own roster of 10 sites, including two in Vaila Sound where harvesting is expected to start again shortly after a recent outbreak of diarrhetic shellfish poisoning (DSP.)
