THE EU rapid alert for week 29 has found undeclared sulphites in blanched frozen pink shrimps (Metapenaeus affinis) from the United Kingdom, notified by Italy.
Estonia notified that they had found parasites – Anisakis in frozen whole round pacific saury (Cololabis saira) from Taiwan.
The UK notified that they had found the unauthorised substance nitrofuran (metabolite)-nitrofurazone (SEM) in raw headless shell on fresh water shrimps from Bangladesh, and finally Germany notified that they had found cadmium in frozen shelled mussels from Chile via Italy and Austria.
Consumers can be reassured that products subject to an alert notification have been withdrawn or are in the process of being withdrawn from the market. The Member States have their own mechanisms to carry out such actions, including the provision of detailed information through the media if necessary.
