Norwegian innovation programme aims for increased profitability in the seafood industry
Published:  24 April, 2006

LAST week Innovation Norway launched a ‘Marine innovation program’ with 40 million NOK (£3,5 million) to be used by the companies who wish to take part in the programme. All producers of seafood in Norway are welcome to participate.

The marine innovation program is to increase the competence and make sure Norwegian seafood producers deliver what the customers want. The goal is increased profitability for companies and for the industry. Innovation Norway is now urging companies to contact Innovation Norway to join the programme.

Innovation Norway is hoping to produce several innovative network projects within seafood. And those companies who are elected get to take part in several projects such as business networks where Innovation Norway’s district offices will help establish a network of companies in the seafood industry with special attention paid to the international market, but also to the home market.

Also a competence program is offered in which key persons in the companies are to receive offers about being trained in things such as strategy work, how to build alliances, and brand name building.

Those who have done the competence program are then offered to be placed in prioritised markets where both the Norwegian Seafood Marketing Council and Innovation Norway have offices.

The state owned company Innovation Norway has replaced the following four organisations: The Norwegian Tourist Board, the Norwegian Trade Council, the The Norwegian Industrial and Regional Development Fund, SND and the Government Consultative Office for Inventors, SVO.

Innovation Norway promotes nationwide industrial development profitable to both the business economy and Norway’s national economy, and helps release the potential of different districts and regions by contributing towards innovation, internationalisation and promotion.

The new state owned company employs more than 700 people. Innovation Norway has offices in all the Norwegian counties and in more than 30 countries world wide. The head office is located in Oslo.
