THE EU rapid alert for week 8 has found dioxins in fish oil capsules from France, notified by France. It also found too high content of sulphites in frozen Norway lobster from Ireland, notified by Italy. Denmark notified of carbon monoxide treatment of frozen tuna chunks from Vietnam via Sweden and via the Netherlands, and Italy notified that Yersinia enterocolitica was found in frozen squid (Loligo spp) from Thailand.
Consumers can be reassured that products subject to an alert notification have been withdrawn or are in the process of being withdrawn from the market. The Member States have their own mechanisms to carry out such actions, including the provision of detailed information through the media if necessary.
