THE Danish Veterinary and Food Administration has approved Norwegian farmed salmon according to a press release published on their website. This brings more support to Norwegian fish farmers following Russia’s ban on imports of fresh farmed salmon due to Russian claims of too high levels of dioxins and PCB.
The Danish food authority have condemned the article published in Journal of Nutrition in which American scientists questioned the health safety risks of eating farmed salmon. They argue that the authors of the article are using risk evaluation methods which are not used by the European food safety authority or the WHO. The Danish food safety authority has not seen any proof of any unlawful amounts of toxins in Norwegian farmed salmon and are, in the light of that, urging the Danish consumers to continue eating Norwegian salmon. Previously, Singapore similarly said that Norwegian salmon was safe to eat.
