DANISH organic trout is now on the market, Dansk Akvakultur has revealed.
Danish consumers are now able to buy organic fish that is farmed according to the strict Danish rules for organic production. After several years of intensive development work the organic trout is now ready and was put on the market from the 7th of September with the Danish red ø-brand. The chairman of Dansk Akvakultur, Mr Jacob Bregnballe, said that he is proud to finally be able to offer consumers organic trout. He said: This is a historic day for Dansk Akvakultur. We have long wished to be able to produce organic fish like other countries, but first the Danish rules had to be put into place.” According to Dansk Akvakultur, the Danish rules for organic fish production are stricter than in other countries. This is above all concerning fish well-being, fish health and water quality, and the fish feed being GMO-free and without dyes. In addition, there are limitations to the usage of medicines and chemicals. An organic fish can for example only be medicated once in its lifetime. It is predicted that the organic trout will be around 30 percent more expensive than the non-organic version.
