THE Norwegian Fisheries directorate has reported that the Marine Harvest A/S fish farm in Storvika in Trustna, Norway, has experienced an escape and it is presumed that a significant amount of salmon with an average weight of 2.5 kilograms has escaped.
The cause for the breakout are so far not clear. The fish farm has put into motion the required measures. According to the Norwegian Food Safety Authority, the fish is neither medicined or have any diseases.
Following the incident, Trond Davidsen of the Norwegian Seafood Federation, has called for a "Breakdown" commission to be put into place. He said that the breakout from the fish farm on Trustna has put the spotlight on the need for a commission.
The government has already put aside resources for establishing such a commission, but it has so far not been created. Mr Davidsen said that that is regrettable and that such a commission ought to be set up as soon as possible.
