SIX major supermarkets have pledged their support to Seafood Week 2005 that kicks off 7th of October and runs until the 14th.
The Sea Fish Industry Authority (Seafish) yesterday announced that ASDA, Iceland, Morrisons, Sainsbury’s, Tesco and Waitrose will be supporting Seafood Week with a series of their own promotional events.
Seafish Consumer Marketing Executive Andy Gray said the support being shown by the companies highlights the importance of the campaign: “Seafood Week is the UK’s biggest celebration of seafood and every year grows bigger and better. Businesses really benefit from getting involved. Some businesses that took part last year stated that their sales increased during the week.
“Their participation also reflects the supermarket’s dedication to satisfy the growing appetite for seafood by British consumers.”
Working under the banner ‘Feeling Good with Seafood’, some of the promotional events being run by the supermarkets will be used to highlight the vast variety of seafood available to consumers.
Seafood Week, now in its fifth year, will be fronted by TV celebrity Carol Vorderman who will communicate how seafood can really make you ‘feel good’.. In previous years the promotion has been supported by Rick Stein, Gordon Ramsey and Antony Worrall Thompson backed by a strong media and marketing campaign.
