WWF has welcomed the publication of the Scottish Executive's Sustainable Framework for Scottish Sea Fisheries with its vision of securing a sustainable and profitable future for the Scottish sea fishing industry.
Fisheries Minister Ross Finnie set out the framework, Sustainable Framework for Scottish Sea Fisheries, which aims to make Scotland's fishing industry more competitive and market focussed.
“WWF welcomes many aspects of this innovative Sustainable Framework for Scottish Sea Fisheries and believes that some parts could be considered a blueprint for the sustainable management of fisheries by other EU Member States. Scotland now has the opportunity to avoid the chronic “boom and bust” of fisheries by sustainably managing fish stocks, whilst safeguarding the health and diversity of Scotland's marine environment, upon which they depend,” said Claire Pescod, Marine Policy Officer, WWF Scotland.
www.fishupdate.com is published by Special Publications. Special Publications also publish European Fish Trader, Fishing Monthly, Fish Farming Today, Fish Farmer, the Fish Industry Yearbook, the Scottish Seafood Processors Federation Diary, the Fish Farmer Handbook and a range of wallplanners.
Should fisheries be closed during breeding time to allow stocks to reach more sustainable levels?
