JOHN West is launching its Reduced Salt Tuna in Brine in a bid to help promote healthy eating in the UK. New John West Reduced Salt Tuna contains just 0.5g salt per 100g compared to 1g per 100g in the current Tuna in Brine product.
“We have taken a number of measures to reduce the quantity of salt in our Reduced Salt Tuna product,” says Jane Hilton, John West Marketing Manager. “Speeding up the freezing process means there is less time for fish to absorb the salt, and bringing in smaller catches means less time spent in the freezing tank. We are also selecting bigger fish, which have a smaller surface area to volume ratio, and therefore less salt absorption. We are not adding any salt during the packaging process."
