EU alert system finds Vibrio cholerae in black tiger shrimps

THE EU rapid alert for week 23 has found excessive levels of sulphites in cooked fresh shrimps from France, notified by Italy. Malchite green and nitrofuran (metabolite) furazolidone (AOZ) was found in frozen farmed eels (Anguilla anguilla) from Greece via the Netherlands, notified by Germany. Also, Vibrio cholerae was detected in raw and cooked frozen black tiger shrimps (Penaeus monodon) from Bangladesh, notified by Sweden.

Alert notifications are sent when the food or feed presenting the risk is on the market and when immediate action is required. Alerts are triggered by the Member State that detects the problem and has initiated the relevant measures, such as withdrawal/recall. www.fishupdate.com is published by Special Publications.
