THE Marine Management Organisation (MMO) has confirmed that grants may be available through the European Fisheries Fund (EFF) in England towards fitting safety stop valves on fishing vessels.
The following may be eligible for funding under Axis 1 of the EFF:
· Vessels under 12 metres not using towed gear – 60 per cent funding (applicant must provide 40 per cent).
· Vessels under 12 metres using towed gear – 40 per cent funding (applicant must provide 60 per cent).
· Vessels between 12 metres and 15 metres – 40 per cent funding (applicant must provide 60 per cent).
Applications can be submitted either by the individual fishermen or by an association of fishermen for consideration by the MMO. Through Axis 1 of the EFF over £14 million has been made available in England towards adaptations on fishing vessels, including towards non-mandatory safety equipment.
