Ton of cod fillets awaits one UK fish and chip shop!
Published:  24 January, 2012

A TON of cod fillets worth between £5,000 and £6,000 - that's the hefty prize awaiting one lucky  fish and chip shop in Britain this year.

It is being offered by the Norwegian Seafood Council to the fried fish shop with the best display about Norway and its seafood.

The offer was revealed by Johan Kvalheim, the UK and France director for the Norwegian Seafood Council, who was in Grimsby to talks to potential Norwegian fish buyers.

This year the council is targeting 500 carefully selected fish and chip shops throughout Britain through a campaign called .FISK.FøREVER -  which brings together the best aspects of Norwegian Seafood: sustainability, health benefits and flavour, and is a simple rallying call to UK consumers to look out for Norwegian in store and for retailers to opt for Norwegian Seafood as a commitment to sustainable sourcing.

Each of the fried fish shops is being given special marketing kits to promote Norwegian cod and haddock and their displays will be tracked by "secret shoppers The outlet with the most imaginative display will receive a prize of one ton of frozen-at-sea cod fillets  – and enough to provide hundreds of fried fish meals. There will also be another prize of a family holiday in Norway.

Working in co-operation with the Humber Trade Corridor, the  Norwegian Seafood Council sees  Grimsby as the main point of entry for frozen and chilled fish because of its high concentration of fish processing companies and the expertise they have to offer.
