The Co-operative retail chain is recalling two batch codes of its own-brand Scottish salmon because of high levels of Listeria monocytogenes found in a small number of retail packs, says the UK's Food Standards Agency.
The product is The Co-operative Scottish Smoked Salmon, 160g, with the use by date of 21 and 24 December 2011.
The company is recalling these batches from consumers as a precautionary measure. Recall notices have been issued in stores explaining the reason for recall and the actions consumers can take if they have bought the affected product. No other Co-operative products are known to be affected.
The advice to consumers is that if they have purchased the above product with use by date of 21 or 24 December 2011, as a precautionary measure, is not to consume it but return the product to their nearest store for a full refund.
Should people be 'stimulated' to eat white fish alternatives to cod?
