Prawn boat crew member airlifted to hospital
Published:  06 December, 2011

A CREW member was airlifted from a prawn boat between The Isle of Rum and Sleat on Monday after he became ill.

Stornoway coastguard was contacted and tasked Mallaig lifeboat to attend the casualty, Mallaig man Donald Kennedy.

Two lifeboat crew, one a paramedic, boarded the Mallaig-owned Amethyst to assess Mr Kennedy and found him to be showing signs of disorientation.

Stornoway coastguard rescue helicopter was scrambled at 12.20pm to take Mr Kennedy to the MacKinnon Memorial Hospital in Broadford.

Speaking to The Oban Times through charge nurse Chrisann O’Halloran on Tuesday morning, Mr Kennedy said ‘a big thank-you’ to all those involved in the rescue.

Ms O’Halloran said the patient’s condition was ‘satisfactory’.
