FISHERIES TECHNICIAN

As Fisheries Technician you will work as part of our Fisheries Science Section to effectively carry out sampling and research programmes.

In particular, you will maintain the current sampling regime and ensure that the appropriate level of data is collected.

This post is initially being offered on a one-year fixed term basis and you will be required to carry out sampling aboard commercial and research vessels, at processing factories and fish markets (including some out of hours and weekend working). 

Your work will also include: assisting with and undertaking fisheries research projects; engaging in data entry, processing and managing collected data; undertaking data analysis and report writing; and assisting with laboratory work (in particular fish ageing and routine fish and shellfish laboratory-based sampling).

You should have a BSc (Hons) in a relevant subject or relevant employment experience.  Your experience should include data collection, handling and analysis, as well as seagoing experience.  You will be computer literate with a working knowledge of Word and Excel and have good interpersonal and communication skills.
