Last chance to have say on future of Seafish
Published:  14 November, 2011

THE fishing and seafood industry's discussion on the long term  future of Seafish this autumn is now nearing completion.

Eight regional discussion workshops which were held around the UK have been completed and the opportunity to contribute written responses will close on Wednesday (November 16).

More than 150 representatives from all sectors of the seafood industry took the opportunity to join open discussion forums held at eight venues across the UK during October.

Dr Paul Williams, Seafish chief executive, said: "There was strong attendance at the workshops, which proved an excellent forum for canvassing the views of a broad cross section of the seafood industry. However, there is still time for anyone who could not get to a workshop to contribute by either post or email until the deadline of November 16th.”

He added: “This is an important process, and industry’s responses will help to inform Ministers before any decisions are made on how Seafish should evolve to meet the future needs of the modern seafood industry.”

Those who were unable to attend a workshop and would still like to submit responses can still do so via email or by post to Defra at: Seafish Discussion, c/o Douglas Stewart, Area 2C, Nobel House, 17 Smith Square, London, SW1P 3JR.

Presentation of findings from the Discussion together with a draft Seafish business plan are expected to be made at conferences with industry early nedxt year
