Icelandic catches for September increase year on year

THE total catch of Icelandic vessels last month was 105,755 tonnes compared to 93,764 tonnes in September 2010.

Demersal species accounted for nearly 31,000 tonnes, with cod nearly 14,000 tonnes, haddock nearly 4,000 tonnes, redfish nearly 5,000 tonnes and saithe nearly 4,000 tonnes.

The pelagic catch was 71,000 tonnes, with herring 48,000 tonnes and mackerel 21,000 tonnes.
At constant prices the volume of the catch increased by 0.8% in September 2011 compared with September 2010. In the first nine months of 2011 the value of catch increased by 1.0% compared with the same time-period in 2010.
