MALLAIG Harbour, on Scotland’s west coast, has had a bumper year for shellfish catches, with provisional figures showing the total raised has increased by half a million pounds on last year.
In 2010, 1,624 tonnes of nephrops was caught, worth a total of £4.8million.
So far this year, the Fishery Office Report estimates 1,029 tonnes of nephrops, worth £5.4million, have been brought into Mallaig Harbour.
Harbour Authority manager Robert MacMillan said: ‘The last two weeks or so haven’t been great, but it’s been a good summer and the last two months have been very good.’
