Food Certification International is currently engaged in a wide range of certification assessments for the Marine Stewardship Council standard in northern Europe, underlining the surge of interest from the seafood sector for the certification of fisheries as being sustainable and responsibly managed.
Over recent weeks FCI has certified Danish, Swedish and German-based clients fishing Eastern Baltic cod as being a sustainable fishery against the MSC Sustainable Fishing Standard, and it is anticipated that a further German-based client fishing Baltic cod, Kustenfischer Nord eG Heiligenhafen, will soon follow.
Meanwhile, FCI has now begun the assessment process for the MSC certification of Dutch North Sea ensis (razorshell) and Dutch Waddenzee and Oosterschelde hand-raked cockles. Assessments for a number of other fisheries are also in the pipeline.
