Staff from Clyde Coastguard and the PCS Union have been invited to the Houses of Parliament, Westminster today, Tuesday 13th September 2011, by Katy Clark MP for North Ayrshire and Arran and Iain McKenzie MP for Inverclyde.
They hope to put forward their case for the retention of the Clyde Coastguard Station based in Greenock before the second consultation period ends on October 6th 2011.
Staff hope to press their case that the closure of Clyde Coastguard Station in Greenock is intrinsically flawed and will lead to the loss of lives on the West Coast of Scotland.
A meeting has also been organised for Friday 16th September 2011 at 11:00 in Inverclyde Council Chambers to try and reverse the decision by the UK Government and the MCA to close down operations in Greenock.
In attendance will be local MPs, MSPs and senior members of all local councils within Clyde Coastguards area of operations.
Coastguard staff will hold a public rally on Saturday 24th September 2011 at 11:00 starting from the Esplanade Cafe, Campbell street, Greenock continuing on to the Battery Park. Public support at this rally would be most welcome, said coastguard staff, as the deadline for the second consultation period is the 6th October and they only have two weeks to reverse the decision to close the station.
Should people be 'stimulated' to eat white fish alternatives to cod?
