Following the oil leak at Shell's Gannet platform in the North Sea last month, Scottish Environment Secretary Richard Lochhead will on Monday (September 12) meet with the marine scientists carrying out analysis to assess the impact of hydrocarbons on fish in the vicinity of the spill.
Mr Lochhead will tour the Marine Scotland Science chemistry laboratory and be updated on the outcome of fish sample assessments. He will be given a demonstration of the apparatus and equipment used in the tests as he meets with staff to thank them for their efforts.
The Environment Secretary will also be shown the facility used for sensory taste testing of fish samples for the presence of hydrocarbons, undertaken by a trained panel of volunteers, which is used to compliment the latest analytical methods available at the Marine Lab.
Should people be 'stimulated' to eat white fish alternatives to cod?
