New European business development manager at BAP
Published:  01 September, 2011

Best Aquaculture Practices, the leading global certification programme for aquaculture facilities, has expanded its international marketing team with the addition of Emil Avalon as BAP's new business development manager for Europe.

Avalon will help manage relationships with seafood suppliers, buyers, retailers and foodservice outlets in the United Kingdom and European continent to share the benefits of the world's leading certification programme.

BAP Vice President of Development Peter Redmond said Avalon's appointment demonstrated ongoing commitment to assist companies in the marketplace, as well as a commitment to advance the principles of BAP within the overall seafood community.

"We are very excited to welcome Emil in to the GAA Family," Redmond said. "Emil brings a tremendous amount of experience with him and will be a tremendous asset as we seek to broaden the base of BAP supporters across the European continent."

Avalon is an industry professional who began the seafood chapter of his career more than a decade ago in Madagascar. Subsequently based in the UK, he has been operating Avalon Latitude Premium Seafood as an independent provider of supply chain support services, working with a range of major EU buyers and shrimp producers around the world on diverse projects aimed at meeting the highest EU retail and foodservice requirements. Avalon's understanding of the EU shrimp market and global supply base is complemented by specific expertise in cooking, product freshness optimization/measurement and NPD. In parallel, Avalon continuously follows the development of major certification schemes, is trained in the BAP shrimp standards since 2004 and is also a qualified BRC 3rd party auditor.

A French national who was raised in Canada, Avalon is an engineering graduate from University of Toronto.

He has just relocated back to France with his family after eight years living in the UK.
