PPS appoint Icelandic Agent to support expansion
Published:  01 August, 2011

PPS East, a leading supplier of returnable transit equipment for the Seafood industry, has appointed IceBox Company ehf as their new agent in Iceland to support increasing demand for its products and hygienic box washing services.

Grimsby-based PPS East has continued to expand its operations supplying returnable plastic fish boxes to Icelandic producers, who in turn export products to the UK. There continues to be an increasing demand for the use of returnable packaging in this sector, as a large amount of fish is currently exported in single trip expanded polystyrene boxes that are difficult to dispose of and certainly not eco friendly.

After a recent trip to Iceland, Kate Williamson of PPS East said, “There is a fast growing trend with the UK and European seafood processors to insist on the use of returnable packaging to receive their fish. The major retailers are closely examining waste practices within the supply chain and have concluded that the use of returnable packaging to replace single use options, contributes significantly towards an improvement in their carbon footprint.

We are delighted to be working in partnership with IceBox Company ehf who has warehousing and office facilities in Reykjavik that will provide support for internal distribution and full customer services to the Icelandic market”

PPS retrieves used plastic fish boxes from UK processors, hygienically washing them at its new Grimsby box-washing site, before introducing them back into the process cycle. They provide boxes for supply chains from Iceland into the UK and France, including 15kg and 25kg capacity boxes for sea freight deliveries as well as 15kg sealed boxes for airfreight. It is planned that the company will shortly introduce a new range of 3kg, 6kg and 15kg sealed boxes to be used for airfreight and destined to direct supply into the supermarkets.
