24th June was the Mission’s first Fish Friday, a national fundraising day supporting our fishermen, their families and a way of life.
The charity has been encouraged by the enthusiastic response to the Day from fish & chip shops, fish restaurants, church groups, schools and organisations up and down the country.
But said Mission Fundraising Director Elaine Campbell; ‘The icing on the cake has been the tremendous support we’ve received from Tesco. The Tesco Fish Team really got behind Fish Friday, pledging 5% of fish counter sales on the Day. We’ve just heard that £17,202 was raised in total. This is a fantastic result, And another possible result we shouldn’t underestimate is the increase in awareness of the Mission given our name and logo appeared on every fish counter in the country. Tesco really has done us proud!’
Fish Friday is to become an annual event. The date for your 2012 diary is 22nd June. If you or your company would like to be involved in 2012, please contact Elaine on 07884 188323 or email elaine@rnmdsf.org.uk
Should people be 'stimulated' to eat white fish alternatives to cod?
