MANY key fishing leaders are expected to attend a high level event which will examine the cross cutting challenges facing coast and fishing nations in the North Atlantic and Nordic region early next month.
The Nordic Oceans Conference - entitled Sea The Future - is being held in the Faroese capital Torshaven on June 7th and 8th and will focus on ensuring the future sustainable use of the seas and the oceans.
The organisers says that green economic growth in a changing climate has top priority focus in Nordic cooperation. Sea The Future is designed to bring the fisheries and maritime sectors more clearly into this focus, with prominent government and industry representatives from a range of sectors sharing their perspectives on the prospects and challenges for sustainable growth in marine–based industries.
One of the key partners is the Nordic Fisheries and Aquaculture Co-operation, which covers both fish farming and catching and is designed to deliver a sustainable approach to the industry.
The Nordic Oceans Conference also coincides with the United Nations World Oceans Day on June 8th providing an additional opportunity to highlight Nordic and North Atlantic perspectives on the ocean in the global context. New Nordic seafood will be featured in all conference catering. This is a culinary concept and approach highlighting the best of local Nordic produce - not least seafood - based on the principles of purity, simplicity, security and ethics.
The two-day conference will be followed by a one-day seminar on maritime safety in the North Atlantic, looking at search and rescue and emergency preparedness.
Should people be 'stimulated' to eat white fish alternatives to cod?
