The crew of a north-east-of-Scotland based trawler were rescued yesterday after their boat started taking in water in the North Sea.
The Banff-registered Beryl got into difficulty about 25 miles (40km) north of Unst, Shetland, at about 1430 BST on Sunday.
Despite the efforts of the five-man crew to pump out the water, the trawler sank.
The crew were picked up by a nearby vessel, the Onward.
Elsewhere a creel boat, Jean Francis, was pulled away from rocks near the entrance to Oban Bay, Argyll, by a work boat as winds of 80mph battered the West Highlands and central Scotland.
