Chile Expands Fish and Shellfish Product Exports to European Union
Published:  03 May, 2011

At the European Seafood Exposition 2011, held May 3-5 in Brussels, Chile will be showcasing product variety and quality as well as its skill at tracking global trends.

The exposition is widely acknowledged as Europe’s leading seafood trade show, with an estimated 20,000 participants from over 140 countries.

Sharing Chile’s 184-sq.m. stand are companies Cisandina Chile, AquaChile, Geomar, Demex, Martesano, Pesquera Pacífico Austral, Salmones Pacific Star, The Chef from Patagonia, and for the first time, a group of small exporters from Coquimbo, in northern Chile. Together, they will be showcasing a wide range of products, notably salmon, trout, swordfish, shrimp, crab, king crab, pink clams, cuttlefish, abalone, scallops, mussels, and macroalgae.

The event will afford them a chance to meet with importers, distributors and members of the trade.

“We’ve been coming here for 10 years. It’s crucial to networking and staying in close touch with clients. There has been new business in it for us, every time”, says Pacífico Austral general manager Pedro Veganzones.

Chilean producers will also show their skill at tracking seafood consumption trends, notably those related to sustainability.

“Attending the show is strategic to us, as the results obtained help us plan production for the year. Our resources are completely natural in origin and are harvested by hand to ensure sustainability”, said Geomar export manager Julio Marambio.

ProChile Director Félix de Vicente emphasized the stock Chile places on carefully tracking global trends as part of efforts to expand and enhance country exports.

“We are strongly focused on helping our businesspeople find new markets, emphasizing sustainability as a key differentiator, and encouraging partnerships to increase competitiveness,” de Vicente said.
