Young’s Seafood Limited has welcomed the results of a YouGov poll, commissioned by WWF, which found that almost four out of five people want fish on sale to come from sustainable sources.
The poll also found that less than one quarter of people think there is adequate information on whether fish products come from well managed sustainable stocks. Two-thirds of those polled said that they support reform of the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP).
Leendert den Hollander, Chief Executive of Young's Seafood Limited, said: “We welcome the poll showing that four out of five UK consumers want to buy fish from sustainable sources. Our own research highlights that consumers now want a greater variety of ways to enjoy sustainably sourced fish. Our Fish for Life programme, on responsible fish procurement, helps people choose responsibly sourced fish and we clearly and consistently label all our products so consumers know exactly what they are buying. Having campaigned against discards for many years, we share our consumers’ enthusiasm for progressive reform of the Common Fisheries Policy.”
Fish for Life, our programme on responsible fish procurement, was formally launched in 2006 by Young's in the UK and has now been adopted across the Findus Group. We were very proud to have received a number of awards for our programme in 2010, including the Land, Water and Ecology prize in the Green Business Awards, and the Management category of the European Business Commitment to the Environment Awards.
Should people be 'stimulated' to eat white fish alternatives to cod?
