The 2011 festival is packed with more than 250 events and will be held between 25th June and 3rd July.
Fish Week is a celebration of Pembrokeshire’s fantastic seafood, spectacular coastline, wonderful beaches, and maritime heritage.
One of the best festivals in Wales, it attracted nearly 30,000 visitors last year. This year has many exciting new events lined up – including ‘Cook your Catch’, a seafood cookery masterclass with five top British chefs.
Mark Hix, Valentine Warner, Mitch Tonks, Bryn Williams and Anthony Evans will all be cooking inspirational fish and shellfish dishes at the Torch Theatre on 29th June.
But there’s a catch! Earlier in the day, they will all go fishing off the South Pembrokeshire coast and they must cook their own rod-caught fish or shellfish in their demonstration – whatever it may be!
The event will be presented by Simon Wright, ‘Champion of Welsh Produce’ for Wales the True Taste awards, owner of Y Polyn restaurant in Carmarthenshire, and former AA Guide editor.
Other new events include a beginners kayaking course, mackerel fishing and fishy bbq at the cabin with TYF Adventure, St Davids; a geology walk with Sid Howells, followed by a Seine netting and rock shore exploration session with the Darwin Centre; a river walk for youngsters in Solva - a chance to get in close and really find out about river life – and a family-friendly beachcomb at Tenby - both with Pembrokeshire Coast National Park.
More new events ideal for families include beach explorer sessions at Goodwick, discovering and identifying shells, seaweed and live creatures, or marine wildlife explorer days at Broad Haven including seine netting, environmental art, and a beach comb clean.
Join the National Trust at Stackpole for a range of activities including a display by the RNLI, craft activities, a family sand sculpture challenge on Barafundle beach and a family activity walk around Bosherston lily ponds. Don’t miss the delicious fishy menu at the Boathouse tearoom with crab dressing demonstrations throughout the day.
New foodie events include a lobster and champagne evening at the Harbourmaster, Milford Haven or a fish supper with live music at the Lavender Café in Solva.
A special fish tasting evening is being held at the Ocean in Broad Haven with fish from around the world and a fish-themed quiz night.
There will be a Friday fish feast at Whitesands Café, St Davids, with hot seafood platters a speciality, as well as a fish and chip night with a glass of wine at Newport Links Golf Club and a Wine Tasting Evening at Priskilly Forest Country House and Golf Club with a selection of fish bites and appetisers from locally sourced fish and seafood served, with rustic homemade breads, accompanied by a selection of wines and aperitifs from a local Wine Merchant.
Pembrokeshire Fish Week is organised by Pembrokeshire County Council. It won Gold Award in the Food Tourism Destination category in the True Taste Food and Drink Awards 2009/ 2010, and Pembrokeshire Tourism's 'Premier Event Award' 2009 / 2010.
The festival is part funded through the Rural Development Plan for Wales 2007-2013, which is financed by the EU and the Welsh Assembly Government.
