UP to 28 jobs may go in Grimsby as the Findus Group, the parent company of Young's, announced plans to move its marketing department to London.
But the company stressed that it was still committed to Grimsby and would continue to invest in its facilities there. Some staff affected may be offered the chance to relocate.
Findus, which also owns The Seafood Company based in Grimsby said it had defined the organisation and capabilities needed to deliver important growth plans in the UK, and the Group's aim was simple: "to win together working as one team - with two locations, each with a unique role to play."
A statement said: "The proposal includes establishing London as the Group’s Commercial Leadership hub to build world class capabilities and leverage shared resources existing in London, while benefiting from the proximity to partner agencies and the ability to attract national and international talent. The Findus UK marketing and commercial team is already in London, and this proposal would involve setting up a re-shaped core Young’s Marketing and Insights team in London.
"In Grimsby, the Group already benefits hugely from strong, established technical and operations teams; and wants to continue to invest in Grimsby as its Manufacturing and NPD Centre of Excellence.
"Findus Group has therefore announced today that it is entering into a minimum 30 day consultation process with a number of its employees at the Ross House offices in Grimsby. The proposal, which affects roles within Group-wide and UK support functions, could result in approximately 28 redundancies. These are not proposals that the Company has tabled lightly, however we believe that taking these tough choices today will build an organisation that becomes fit for purpose to drive long term future success. It is about an effective organisation across two locations, Grimsby being the technical and NPD centre and London the commercial centre."
