Shetland salmon company, Grieg Seafood Hjaltland UK Ltd, has been announced winner of the ‘New Business Award’ in the Highlands and Islands Food and Drink Awards 2010 at a dinner at the Drumossie Hotel in Inverness.
The prestigious ‘New Business Award’, presented by celebrity chef, Nick Nairn on Friday, October 29, was awarded for the company’s new WildWaters value added range of smoked salmon, gravadlax and fresh Scottish salmon products.
Judges were looking for a new business or organisation that could demonstrate both initial market success with a product/range or service and which the judges feel has great potential to further contribute to the local food and drink economy, or further enhance the perception of Highlands and Islands’ food and drink. They also assessed staff training, innovation, meeting market need, ongoing business potential and overall business identity (packaging, placement, marketing materials etc).
Delighted by the win, managing director of Grieg Seafood Hjaltland Michael Stark said: “This is excellent news for us, particularly when you consider the other products shortlisted in our category. The Highlands & Islands Food and Drink Awards showcase the very best food and drink products from Scotland and the fact that we have won is a true testament to the quality of our new and innovative WildWaters value added product range.
“From our existing production, processing and sales business, it was a natural progression for us to take value added processing to the next level.
“The WildWaters range of uniquely flavoured smoked and marinated salmon products – all devised by our in-house team - is already proving tremendously popular in the retail marketplace – both in the UK and overseas, which is remarkable given the fact that it was only launched a short while ago.
“I had no doubt that we had created a ground-breaking, first class selection of luxury fish products. Now, we have gained a number of accolades to confirm it.”
Chief Executive of Grieg Seafood Morten Vike said: “We are delighted to have won such a prestigious award. We were also very pleased to be shortlisted (nominated) for three further award categories: New Product Award, Innovation Award and the Environment Award - which we won in 2008. It is testament to the hard work and dedication of our entire workforce that we have been able to build a quality product portfolio and level of service that our customers – in 15 countries across Europe, the Far East, South Africa the US and Canada - truly value.”
Should people be 'stimulated' to eat white fish alternatives to cod?
