Shetland WildWaters salmon range wins Tesco breakthrough
Published:  06 October, 2010

The Shetland produced WildWaters range of smoked salmon  and gravadlax  products has won a major supermarket breakthrough. The range is about to be launched in a large number of Tesco stores across Scotland.

In the short time that the WildWaters range has been available in the retail market it has scooped two key  awards. It won the Scotland Food & Drink Excellence Awards – ‘Seafood’ category, and WildWaters Smoked Salmon ‘Pastrami’ won the Fish Category of the Quality Food Awards in December 2009 – with the same product short-listed again for this year’s award.

Having been carried by the Tesco store in Lerwick since last December WildWaters Smoked Salmon, Smoked Salmon Pastrami and Gravalax Limoncello is now available in 63 stores throughout Scotland. *

Angus Bell, Local Buying Manager for Tesco in Scotland said: “We pride ourselves on sourcing top quality, locally produced food and drink and are delighted to be launching such a range from WildWaters. Having visited the company recently to see where the salmon are farmed and the products produced, the enthusiasm and passion for the product is clearly evident from everyone involved. They are fantastic products and truly deserving of the awards they have received.”

Managing director of Grieg Seafood Hjaltland Ltd, Michael Stark who produce the WildWaters range stated: “It is especially encouraging to be working with major retailers whom are keen to purchase local products and are prepared to come to the most remote part of the UK to buy an innovative new range. We are very proud of the provenance of our Shetland grown Scottish Salmon and our new WildWaters value added range. We are delighted to have received the recognition for our efforts in both the accolades we have achieved and the products being offered on a wider scale by Tesco.”
