Peterhead figures running well ahead

OVERALL tonnage and value of fish handled at Peterhead is running well ahead of last year, according to figures issued by Peterhead Port Authority.

Figures for the first six months of this year show that the gross value of all fish handled has reached £70,242,565, compared with £62,439,461 for the same period of last year.

Overall volume has also risen, from 75,309 tonnes to 94,266 tonnes.

White fish tonnage has shown   only a marginal increase, from 22,589 tonnes to 22,612 but gross value is up from £28,831,099 to £33,660,749.

The herring and others tonnage is up from 20,529 tonnes to 37,226 tonnes , helped significantly by blue whiting totals with gross value up from £4,661,144 to £8,553,158, confirming the trend set earlier this year.

Mackerel tonnage is up, from 30,583 to 31,708 tonnes, but gross value is still down, from 25,727,541 to £23,971,856.

Shellfish tonnage and value are both up with landings rising from 1,608 tonnes to 2,720 tonnes and value from £3,219,677 to £4,056,802.
