Published:  11 June, 2010

A GRIMSBY fishing boat has been involved in a collision with a Dutch trawler in the North Sea and its four man crew have been rescued, say the emergency services. No-one on either vessel is thought to have been injured.

The Humber lifeboat, based at Spurn Point has taken the vessel, the Eventide back to the port  of Grimsby after Thursday's incident 100 miles off Spurn Point. The fishing boat suffered significant damage when it was in collision with the Dutch beam trawler Miranda in fog, a Humber Coastguard spokesman said. The incident has been reported to the Marine Accident Investigation Branch. This is the second incident involving a fishing vessel in that area of the North Sea in the past three days.

On Wednesday an RAF  helicopter was called out to rescue two fishermen who got into difficulties after their vessel capsized off the Humber Estuary. The men were winched to safety by the helicopter after the fishing boat, called the Taty, capsized off the Yorkshire Coast. The two man crew was pulled from the sea.

Meanwhile, a man, thought to be in his late thirties, who went missing while fishing off the coast of Tynemouth has been found - at his mother's house. A friend of the missing man alerted police at 0400 BST after he fell asleep and found his friend had gone. He became concerned after finding his friend's fishing gear left at North Pier where the pair had been fishing during the early hours of the morning. The coastguard, Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigade and police were involved in the search.
