AN RAF helicopter was called out to rescue two fishermen who got into difficulties after their vessel capsized off the Humber Estuary yesterday.
The men were winched to safety by the helicopter from RAF Leconfield, near Hull. Humber Coastguards said the fishing boat, called the Taty, capsized off the Yorkshire Coast. The two man crew was pulled from the sea. The alarm was raised when a number of people onshore reported seeing flares out to sea. Another member of the public reported that he could see a vessel, possibly on fire and with people in the water.
The helicopter was assisted by the Hornsea Independent Rescue Boat and local fishing Vessel Sophie Dawn, which was fishing nearby.Humber Coastguard manager said: "The quick reaction of the members of the public who called 999 and asked for the coastguard helped rescue the persons in the water swiftly."This quick reaction allowed us to task rescue units quickly to the scene."
The two fishermen men were taken to Hull Royal Infirmary for checks and medical attention.
Should people be 'stimulated' to eat white fish alternatives to cod?
