Published:  01 April, 2010

Clyde Coastguard were called in to coordinate a search and rescue operation on Loch Lochy near Fort William yesterday after a 999 call reporting that three men were struggling in the water in the remote western side of Loch Lochy.

Clyde Coastguard received the call at 12.50pm from a member of the public who was some way off but could see three people struggling in the water and calling for help in the southern end of Loch Lochy which is part of the Caledonian Canal.

All three had come out of a three man Canadian canoe. All three were wearing lifejackets or flotation devices and managed to get ashore.

Coastguard Rescue Teams from Fort William and Fort Augustus attended the scene and requested an ambulance for one person who was extremely cold and the Coastguard Helicopter Rescue 100 flew the casualty to Fort William hospital. The other two were taken to Fort William by road.
