SSPO experiences increase in exported fish

The Scottish Salmon Producers' Organisation (SSPO) has announced that they experienced a 24% increase in exported fish compared with 2008 with more than 13 million farmed salmon exported from Scotland last year.
SSPO said 65,480 tonnes of salmon were sent to 55 countries. The majority went to Europe, with notable sales in France, Belgium and Germany. Fish were also sold in the US, Canada and the Far East.
SSPO chief executive, Scott Landsburgh, said: 'Salmon is the largest food export from Scotland.It has established a substantial overseas market, worth over £220m per annum.'
