Seafood company hailed Britain's top business
Published:  17 November, 2009

THE seafood company, which has major production operations in Scotland and Grimsby, has picked up a clutch of  honours  at the national Food Manufacture Excellence Awards.

The awards recognise the very best in UK food manufacturing and are considered a benchmark for the industry.  It won the top overall accolade of Company of the Year. The Seafood Company's main sites include Fraserburgh and Livingston (Macrae), Annan (Pinney's of Scotland), Grimsby and Cromer (Cromer Crabs). The Company of the Year prize is chosen by an independent panel of judges from the winners of the individual categories and is awarded to the business that outshines all the rest.

The Seafood Company's Marsden Road site in Grimsby, which specialises in chilled fillets, took the top honours in the Seafood and Productivity Through Skills category, along with other prizes.
The implementation of an enhanced training programme has not only resulted in greater employee retention, but has increased productivity by 20 per cent and greatly improved efficiency levels as well as giving staff the opportunity to gain a formal qualification.

The business is part of the Findus Group, which also includes Young's and was created about 18 months ago following a major restructuring.

Peter Ward, managing director of The Seafood Company, and Tam Muldoon, who heads up the Grimsby factory, said they were delighted to accept the awards. Mr Ward said: 'They are testament to the hard work put in by the staff. Our approach to manufacturing and staff development is intrinsic to our success and we will continue to invest in our people and processes as the business develops.'
