FINDUS, the owner of Young's Britain's largest fish provider, has announced a key new post to handle the increasingly important issues of sustainability and the environment involved in seafood production.
James Turton, who has been looking after seafood sourcing for Young's, has become Findus group director for sustainability and corporate affairs and will also take responsibility for Young's sister operation, The Seafood Company, which has major production centres in Scotland and Grimsby.
In his new role Mr Turton will drive the group’s pioneering sustainability programme, setting both the agenda and a benchmark for the industry. These encompass a range of initiatives such as carbon reduction, ‘green’ packaging solutions, sustainable agriculture and the responsible sourcing of fish and ingredients. This will be underpinned by the Group’s ‘Fish for Life’ approach which includes its now acclaimed Ten Principles for Responsible Fish Procurement .
He brings extensive experience of the food industry from roles within Findus Group and other major organisations. After graduating with a first class honours degree in business, he embarked on a highly successful career in the food industry undertaking a number of senior commercial roles within the United Biscuits group, the multi-million pound snack manufacturer.
He joined Young's as marketing director in 2001 and was later given a senior post in seafood sourcing and innovation two years ago.
He said: 'My new role allows me to continue what has been a long term involvement in the implementation and ongoing development of industry leading sustainability standards within the group.'
