Councillor Donald MacDonald surveys the new banner above Oban’s busy George Street |
A DRIVE by the recently formed Oban Forward group to promote Oban as an attractive destination has begun with a bold statement, advertising the town as the Seafood capital of Scotland.
The message is emblazoned across a banner in George Street, which was erected in time for the Easter weekend, the town’s busiest weekend so far this year.
The banner was proposed by Oban and Lorn Tourism Association and sponsored by The Oban Forward Group.
Oban Forward consists of three councillors, four business owners and Kenny MacIntyre, chairman of Oban Community Council.
Member and restaurant owner Alan MacLeod said: ‘We are very pleased to see it going up. Everyone in the town’s restaurant trade will be pleased, as they all serve a bit of seafood.
‘It’s one of Oban’s big selling points and gives a good focal point.’
Oban North and Lorn Councillor Donald MacDonald, Oban Forward’s secretary, said: ‘The group was set up to promote the town and to give it a lift in time for the tourist season.
‘The banner is one of our short-term projects but we are looking long term as well.
‘The banner describes Oban well because our seafood is first class and straight out of the sea.’
