UK East coast fishermen have been urged to blockade ports to protest against crippling quotas imposed by the EU.
The Leader of the UK Independence Party, Nigel Farage MEP said: "The fishermen have tried talking to politicians both at Westminster and in Brussels but their concerns have fallen on deaf ears. Fishing fleets have been all but wiped out and 90% of what our fishermen catch, they have to throw back. Meanwhile, they are seeing foreign fishing boats, heavily subsidised by Continental governments, catching what have traditionally been British fish stocks.
"These are hard working, law-abiding people and yet their industry is on the brink of collapse and unless they take direct action they will be out of work by the end of the year. The time has come to take action."

Should fisheries be closed during breeding time to allow stocks to reach more sustainable levels?
