Lords EU Committee takes CFP issue to Peterhead

THE House of Lords EU Sub-Committee on Environment and Agriculture,which is investigating the Common Fisheries Policy,will this Thursday, May 1, visit Peterhead and take evidence from Scottish officials and fishing industry representatives.

The Committee will start with a private tour of Peterhead fish market at 6:50am with Peterhead Port Authority. This will give the Committee the opportunity to see at first hand the fish auction which begins at 7am and give them a "unique insight" into the operations of the UK's fish trade.

The Committee, which is chaired by Lord Sewel,a former Scottish fisheries Minister, will then hold formal public evidence sessions in Arbuthnot House, Aberdeenshire Council's Offices in Peterhead from 10:00am.The Committee will hear from a range of witnesses representing the Scottish Executive, Aberdeenshire Council,the Scottish Fisheries Protection Agency and representatives of the Scottish fishing industry.

The timetable for the evidence sessions comprises:

10:00 - Andrew Brown, Head of Marine Directorate and Frank Strang, Head of Sea Fisheries Conservation Division, Scottish Executive.

11:30 - Chris White, Buchan Area Manager, Aberdeenshire Council.

14:00 - Cephas Ralph, Director of Operations, Scottish Fisheries

Protection Agency.

15:00 - Mark Dougal, Chief Executive, North East Scotland Fishermen's Organisation will give evidence with a representative of Seafood Scotland.
