According to BBC News, a four-hour search with two lifeboats and the rescue helicopter from RAF Valley was launched yesterday after a member of the public raised the alert.

The boat was reported to be found empty off Trefor, south of Caernarfon.

The missing man is thought to be from the Llyn Peninsula area, aged around 60 and believed to be a non-swimmer.

The search has now moved to the Anglesey coast and crews are looking for the man off Llanddwyn Bay, said Holyhead coastguard.

Janice Bursell from the coastguard said the search began at around 1630 BST yesterday when a vessel called the Osprey reported that it had come across the fishing vessel the Provider around two miles off the coast of Trefor.

It was going round and round in circles and no-one was on board, she said.

The Porthdinllaen lifeboat and the Treaddur Bay lifeboat were launched.

Coastguards from Porthdinllaen and Llandwrog began a search of the coastline and a rescue helicopter from Valley and a police helicopter also took part.

The search resumed at first light with coastguard cliff rescuers and RNLI volunteers combing the coastline.

The Porthdinllaen lifeboat has also resumed its search at sea.

Jim Green, duty watch manager at Holyhead coastguard said it was hoped a helicopter from RAF Valley would rejoin the search in the morning and that conditions were "ideal" for the search.

However he added it appeared the man they were searching for was not wearing the appropriate safety equipment for the task he was carrying out.

"He was actually working his lobster pots," said Mr Green. "We understand he was not wearing his life jacket which we strongly advise people to do carrying out that particular activity.

"He was also single handed which is not unusual but it would help if another person was on board.

"We also strongly advise people taking part in this activity to wear a deck knife of some sort on their person so if they are wearing oil skins they can slash them to allow the water freely to enter and reduce the drag down."
