FIGURES up to the end of March show that whitefish tonnage and value at Peterhead for the first three months of the year are showing increases with other species showing solid performances.
The port’s strength is underlined by figures showing that £14,418,608 worth of white fish were handled at the port in the first three months of this year, compared with £14,140,859 in the same period of 2007.
Comparative tonnage was 9823 tonnes this year compared with 8980 tonnes.
Mackerel value was at £22,430,277 compared with £24,499,059, while herring was £1,489,070 compared with £1,090,779. Shellfish was valued at £1,562,049 compared with £1,542,667.
In overall gross value terms for all species, £39,900,004 worth was handled in the first three months of this year compared with £41,273,364 last year.In overall tonnage terms, Peterhead saw 54,080 tonnes this year compared with 53,957 tonnes.
