Loch Fyne Oysters founder honoured with award
Published:  23 April, 2008

ANDY Lane, one of the founders of Loch Fyne Oysters, has received the Judges’ Special Award in the 2008 edition of The List’s Eating and Drinking Guide, published today.

The prestigious award, reserved for "true Scottish food heroes," has been bestowed upon Andy due to his ethical championing of rural Scottish produce and his passion and dedication to sustainable farming.

The award also comes in recognition of Andy’s efforts to create employment opportunities in the local area when the farm was established in 1978. This dedication to the community continued when, following the death of fellow founder Johnny Noble in 2002, Andy was instrumental in ensuring that Loch Fyne Oysters was bought over by its own employees.

When he was told of the award Andy said: “It is an honour to receive such a great award simply for having a passion for my work. The award coming in the year of Loch Fyne Oysters 30th Birthday is great timing and is recognition for the whole team.”

Andy is only the second recipient of the award joining Iain J Mellis, proprietor of one of Scotland’s finest cheesemongers.

Donald Reid, Editor of The List Eating & Drinking Guide said: “Scotland has produced its share of food heroes over the years. Andy Lane deserves his place among them and we hope our award goes some way towards recognising his contributions to ethical championing of rural Scottish produce in Great Britain and internationally.”
