Fishing 2008 is being held at Glasgow's SECC |
THE skirl of the pipes today marked the opening of the major Fishing 2008 show in Glasgow.
The three-day event is being attended by exhibitors from all over the UK and Europe and the organisers said they were delighted with attendance indications so far.
Graeme Ringsell, the show's commercial director, said they had received more than 1,000 pre-registrations for the event, which was up on last year.
"People are queuing up to get in and we are very pleased with support levels so far," he said.
As well as boasting the latest in industry hardware, the show will feature a number of seminars, beginning today with sessions on gear technology and safety. A session on the implications for commercial fisheries of offshore renewable energy had to be cancelled due to the illness of the speaker.
Tomorrow, Scottish Fisheries Minister Richard Lochhead is due to make a key note speech on Scottish fishing into the future.
